Ping.fm

"Ping.fm is a simple service that makes updating your social networks a snap."

"Profilactic is a social media aggregator/lifestreaming service that pulls together just about everything you and your friends create online."

Hex gave me a Ping.fm beta code a little while ago, and also introduced me to Profilactic. Since the arrival of twitter, and the multitude of similar microblog/status sites I've been signing up to most of them, but who has the time to update each and every one? Not me, that's for sure. So I had been waiting for a service just like Ping.fm, where you plug in your details for each site you want updated and just enter it once and it does all the hard work for you. Brilliant!

Now I can have my Twitter, Plurk, Pownce, Tumblr, Jaiku and Facebook statuses updated all at the same time!

Profilactic is very similar to Friendfeed, except you can't leave comments on the entries. I am particularly excited about the WTFMO badge feature - which stands for Where to find me online. A piece of JavaScript that you paste into any page that you want your online identities listed. You can also import your lifestream into other pages via another JavaScript or pulling in the RSS.

All very clever!

I am planning a small redesign of my zquack.net site including my WTFMO badge, and possibly making planetquack.net a simple mirror of it, as I hardly update either site and they might as well be the same.

Update: I am now updating Kwippy and Identi.ca from Ping.fm!
