Domino's Ciabatta Pizza
Last night we all had Domino's for dinner, and I decided to try out the new ciabatta base. I didn't expect it to arrive in such a big box, I just had to take a couple of pics of it.
It wasn't actually as delicious as it sounded, the base was a little tough and incredibly over-filling. I ended up leaving a few pieces for lunch today. I'm glad to have tried it, but I think in the future I'll just stick to the ordinary base.

Birthday
T'was my 28th birthday on the 16th. I got Ross Noble - Unrealtime on DVD from my brother, Chris Moyles' Difficult Second Book and a 125ml bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier "Le Male" eau de toilette (as my old bottle is running low) from my parents, and some cash from my grandparents.

New Windows
Firstly, the old windows - probably the original ones from when the house was built:

And now, the new windows, fitted on the 15th:

Ahh... so much better! No drafts, no holes where a cable had once come through the wooden frame, and much more secure. Shame about the stickers on my old double glazing though. Not entirely sure what I'm going to do with them now. Some are irreplaceable, such as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim bumper sticker at the top - they're now called the Anaheim Ducks!

Welcome Change Coming To IE
Once upon a time Internet Explorer could load ActiveX controls and allowed interaction with them immediately, but then a company called Eolas patented the idea. They successfully sued Microsoft for infringing their patent and won a ridiculous $521 million. That was a bad day for Internet Explorer users, and also for anyone wanting to embed objects in their sites.
Due to the result of the case, in April 2006, Microsoft added a workaround to IE that would require a user to "Click to activate" any objects using ActiveX, which includes Flash and Windows Media Player - a huge annoyance. There were a few ways around this, the easiest was to load the control via JavaScript instead of embedding it directly in the page.
Fast forward to November 2007 and Pete LePage, Microsoft's Senior Product Manager of Internet Explorer has this to report:
Back in April 2006, we made a change to how Internet Explorer handled embedded controls used on some webpages. Some sites required users to “click to activate” before they could interact with the control. Microsoft has now licensed the technologies from Eolas, removing the “click to activate” requirement in Internet Explorer. Because of this, we're removing the “click to activate” behavior from Internet Explorer!
Excellent news!!

Remembrance Sunday
This year, the 11th day of the 11th month happens to fall on a Sunday, so Remembrance Day is also Remembrance Sunday. As has been my custom in recent years, I have changed the header image to that of a field of poppies to commemorate our fallen soldiers.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The birds, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Command Window Here
Although you can use one of Microsoft's XP PowerToys to add a Command Prompt Here option to the menu when you right-click on a folder, this doesn't work on 2003 (or Vista). Here's a simple way to get the same functionality.
Create a text file called "prompthere.reg" and copy the following text into it. Then save and run it.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shell\prompt] @="Command &Window Here" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shell\prompt\command] @="cmd.exe /k pushd %L"

Picnik
I've just discovered Picnik, an online photo editor, which hooks into Flickr, Facebook, Picasa, Photobucket and Webshots, allows you to upload files directly and take pics with your webcam... and then enables you to edit them using such tools as auto-fix, rotate, crop, sharpen, rotate and adjusting of variables such as brightness and contrast.
I tried the crop function out on the Ross Noble image below, removing some of the crowd at the bottom, tightening it up on the actual stage.
Although I don't use Flickr that much, I am finding it increasingly useful when I want to upload photos from my mobile phone, and now with Picnik I can edit the images just how I want them after uploading.
UPDATE: Picnik has evolved! They now allow access to most of the premium features only previously available to paying customers! You still need to pay for full-screen editing and a version with no adverts, but the free version is now so much better than before.

Ross Noble
Went to see Ross Noble at the Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday. It was awesome. I was laughing so hard I was actually crying. My sides hurt by the end of it. Can't wait to get the DVD of this tour.

N95 Battery Life
One thing I hadn't counted on with the Nokia N95 is the terrible battery life. My old N70 could last almost 3 days without needing a charge. I have only had an N95 for 3 days and already I've had to charge it 3 times. Looks to me like it's going to require a charge every day!
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off unless I'm actively using them.
