Crappy Journey Home

On Saturday, Bonnie and I packed all our stuff up nice and early and left the hotel room, as we left I checked out. Nice and easy. It was about 11am. My flight wasn't till 5, so I thought Bonnie and I could hang out for a few hours before I needed to be at the airport.

Nope. She ended up having a fight with her mom and dropping me at the airport at 12pm instead! Oh well I thought... only 5 hours to wait.

Again... wrong! I got delayed didn't I. Something about bad weather in Chicago. My plane finally left Raleigh at 8:30pm (EST), and landed in Chicago just after 9pm (CST). I was supposed to be on the 10pm flight from Chicago to Heathrow... that was less than an hour away from my landing time. There was no way I could get on it.

I managed to find my suitcase eventually, the baggage claim system was all messed up, and my flight wasn't even listed on the boards. I ended up in Terminal 3, which is where the American flights go from, but when I got there there was NO ONE around, except the cleaners.

I found the customer service phones and picked one up to call American and explain what happened. There was another flight the next morning at 9:10, so I got a ticket on that flight confirmed, and wandered over to the Hilton hotel to get a room for the night so I could at least a few hours sleep.

I finally went to sleep just after midnight, and had to get up again at 7am :( Unfortunately I had yet another restless night, Friday night had been awful, and so was Saturday's sleep.

Anyway... I got up and headed back over to Terminal 3 to check in. The woman at the desk was really nice and helpful, I explained what had happened and she did her best to sort me out the best possible seat. The guy I'd spoken to the night before said they only had window or others available, but the check-in woman found me an aisle. That made me very happy :)

It wasn't long till we boarded, and I was finally heading home. Landed in Heathrow just after 10:30pm, and my parents were waiting for me outside customs, they drove me home and I went to bed just after midnight... and had yet another restless night's sleep. :(
