Reinstalling Windows Server 2003 - Part 1

Still at work, wishing I could go home now and check what's going on with my server. Has it crashed completely? Is the data intact? Have I lost all my email? Can I get it running long enough to get a backup? I hate not knowing the answers to these questions.

I have been doing some research to find out what I will need to do to get my data backed up and in a position so that I can restore it easily once I have reinstalled SBS from scratch.

I think I may have to install 2003 on my spare PC and get it joined to the domain as a DC so that I can replicate my AD settings over to it, then once I've reinstalled SBS on the server, it'll replicate back again saving some hair pulling later on.

I may move my server upstairs while I work on it to save me traipsing up and downstairs every 5 minutes to check on it.

I printed out 2 huge documents produced by Microsoft related to backups and disaster recovery procedures, not realising quite how large they were when I hit Print. Was a bit of a shock when I went downstairs to pick them up from the copier... I'm glad I sent them there instead of the laser up here!

Next part will be written when I'm home and I know what state my server is actually in.
