Mice Piss Me Off

Not the furry little rodents, they're quite cute really. No, I'm talking about computer mice.

I'm left handed.
I hold the mouse in my left hand.

Although I don't swap the left/right buttons like I suppose I should. I have always used it this way, because the world is right handed, I would pick up the mouse and move it to the left so I could use it. If I'd tried to use the mouse with my right hand all those years ago and gotten used to it, I probably wouldn't be writing this entry now.

But I didn't. I'm left handed and I prefer my left hand to my right.

Logitech have just announced a new mouse, which uses laser technology instead of an LED with a optical detector. Great news isn't it? Even more sensitivity than before... no more silly red lights shining out of the sides of the mouse... sounds good, yes?

Well, no... at least not for me - yet. It's a right handed mouse.

If you know anything about the range of mice Logitech produce, then you'll know that the MX series now has 7 members. The range starts with the 300 (the 300 is now dead, but I have one, so it still counts) and ends with the brand new 1000.

The full range is this:
300 - both hands, corded, 4 buttons (3 normal plus app-switch)
310 - both hands, corded, 6 buttons (same as above, plus back/forward)
500 - right hand, corded, 8 buttons (same as above, plus 2 cruise control)
510 - right hand, corded, 8 buttons, improved MX sensitivity
700 - right hand, cordless, 8 buttons, rechargeable
900 - same as 700, but uses Bluetooth instead of RF

1000 - right hand, cordless, rechargeable, tilt wheel, 8 buttons (I think), laser technology

The 1000 is gorgeous... but I can't use it, not without re-learning how to use my computer! I am hoping against hope that Logitech release a decent both handed mouse using the same technology, including the tilt wheel.

Hell, I would love to be able to have a rechargeable cordless mouse (RF or bluetooth, doesn't really matter) with loads of buttons, that fits in either hand... but do Logitech make one? Do they rowlocks.

If I want to have a cordless mouse, I can't even get one with the MX engine... which is just crap. How about a cordless 310 Logitech??

If only the split between left and right handers was 50/50 instead of 10/90. :(
