ImageMagick/GD2.x

<grumble>

Why can't Fasthosts upgrade their damn version of GD to one that can create GIFs? Or at least install ImageMagick which kicks GD's pansy ass all over the shop. I really wish they'd read the support forums they so kindly set up for their users, and do some of the things people constantly seem to be asking for - without palming us off with some pathetic excuse, or not even bothering to give us any feedback as to why they can't do so-and-so. And if they do decide to implement something we've asked for, why does it take well over a year to do so?

I want to use Coppermine for all my image storing needs, instead of the script I wrote which causes no end of grief because it uploads files I can't then delete or overwrite. I wonder if it has anything to do with the CHMOD I am using... I'll have to do a test using another CHMOD value before finally giving up. Right now I've got no way to upload GIFs because the installed version GD won't support them thanks to that damn Unisys patent.

UPDATE: Amazingly Fasthosts have upgraded their Linux servers! They are currently running Apache 1.3.33, PHP 4.3.9 and have GD 2.0.28. GIF Create support is enabled in this version of GD, Coppermine required a few hacks before it'd work with GIFs and GD 2.x but now I can upload GIFs without any trouble at all.

This makes me very happy!! Thank you Fasthosts!
