New Desk = Bad Back

I got a new desk on Tuesday (pics are coming as soon as I'm happy with where my stuff is).

It's 5 foot wide, compared to my old desk which was about 3 foot, made of apple wood and looks gorgeous.

I love the way the black of my computer, keyboard, mouse and mouse mat look against the lighter colour of the wood. It's a nice contrast.

It took me a good few hours to shift everything off the old desk, build the new one, vacuum all the dust, spider webs and other crap from behind the old desk, then move the new desk into place and start putting my computer back together - trying to get all the wires plugged in without getting them all tangled up is probably one of the hardest things to do.

I had some help from my brother while shifting the new desk as it's pretty damn heavy, but he was getting grumpier with me each time I asked. So when it came to moving my 19" monitor around my room, I did it myself. Bad idea... I didn't realise it then, but lifting that thing on my own would come back to haunt me the next day.

Wednesday morning I wake up. Ow. My back hurts. OW! Great, I thought. I've pulled all the muscles in my lower back, at least I hope it's just the muscles.

Anyway, I stayed home from work, and rested my aching back. I took a few aspirin to dull the pain, and was rubbing Deep Freeze into my muscles every few hours. This seems to have done the trick. It's now Thursday and my back is feeling a lot better (not 100% yet, more like 60%).

Moral of the story is... don't lift with your back, use your knees - or ask your grumpy brother to help you even if he will moan about it.
