Pretty Good Day

I remembered something I needed to post from Monday:
Just imagine my surprise when I got home from work on Monday to find a large cardboard box sitting in the kitchen with my name on it. I racked my brains trying to remember if I had ordered anything recently that would need a box that size... and coming to the conclusion that I couldn't have ordered anything that big I started to open it.

Upon lifting up the flaps I was greeted by a load of red and white... and my mouth dropped open.

I started pulling out the contents and putting them on the side wondering where the heck they had all come from. Eventually I realised that I had managed to win one of the 10,000 prizes in the recent Kit Kat draw!

A PC monitor blind and The Little Book of Breaks.

Kit Kat Break Timer, Handheld computer game, Break Eye Mask, and a supply of Kit Kats consisting of an 8 pack of Kit Kat 4 Finger, 16 Pack of Kit Kat 2 Finger and 4 Pack of Kit Kat Chunky.

Great eh?

THANK YOU NESTLE!!!!!!

Now onto today....

At around 9:30 Robert called me up with a problem, what a surprise! He needed me urgently, so I dropped what I was doing and jumped on the train. Got to the office, found the problem - it was a password issue. Fixed it by resetting the password on one of the computers (although I need to change that computer back to using Simple File Sharing next time I'm up there). I had to try to fix something on Robert's PC next, although I couldn't find any problem with the way his Outlook was working - he kept insisting it had never done whatever it was before... I just made some excuses and left.

As I was just about to walk down the stairs back into the tube, I changed my mind, and walked into the FCUK store on Regent's Street. I tried on a couple items, and ended up buying 4 shirts. I love the FCUK gear, it's a shame most of it doesn't fit me... like their cargo/combat pants for instance. The biggest size they have is a 36. Now what the hell good is that? I'm at least a 40! I don't want to say what slogans the shirts had on them, as I want to surprise Em with them when I get to Canada at the weekend ;)

While I had a couple minutes to spare at Victoria station, I popped into HMV and grabbed a copy of Fargo on DVD. I've been meaning to watch it for years... and now finally I have. It's funny and annoying at the same time. God knows how many times they say "Yah!" in that movie. I wonder if that's how all people in North Dakota speak. If so, I'd hate to go there, it'd drive me totally crazy.

After getting back to Sutton, it was about half past 1, so I wandered all the way down the High Street to the barber's shop at the bottom called Tall Louis'. I've had my hair cut there many a time and they've always been good. I had to wait a while as two people were ahead of me in the queue, but I got my hair cut eventually. I had a 3 around the sides and got it pretty short on top so I can spike it up a bit. I think it looks pretty darn good... What do you think?

Once I got back into the office, Malgosia needed me to sort out a problem with Andrew's computer. I've come across it before. Outlook refuses to save the password, even if you click the "Remember Password" box. I think it's because people are using the Windows XP Administrator account, instead of a proper named one. It's hard to find the correct information you need to fix it by searching the MS Knowledge Base... the easiest way is to use Google to find it for you. Eventually I found the document I wanted. To fix it you need to enter Regedit. Simple enough... or so I thought. I did Start, Run, regedit... Enter.

Something's missing... where's the Permissions option? I spent about 20 minutes hunting around looking for any possible security settings that might've turned it off or hidden it.... nothing. I eventually hit on the fact I might not be running the right version of Regedit... it looked like the right one from doing a Help/About but I wasn't. After opening Explorer and browsing to C:\Windows\System32 I noticed something odd about the version number of regedit.exe. It was the Windows 98 version! Why the hell Compaq would copy an old version of Regedit onto their installs of Windows XP Professional God only knows! I was so pissed off. I promptly deleted the unwanted regedit.exe and ran the correct version from C:\Windows.

Hooray!! I now have a Favourites menu and a Permissions option. 5 minutes later I was finished with the registry tweak. Ugh!! Fucking Com-crap. If they hadn't done that moronic task of including an outdated (and possibly dangerous) copy of Regedit I would've been finished a damn sight sooner. Yet another reason why I hate OEM OS installs.

After finally getting home, I find another big cardboard box. This time it's got my dad's name on it. He's only gone and won a bloody competition that I told him about!! GRR! It was for a Logitech cordless keyboard and optical mouse. You had to answer three easy questions and then fill out your details. You could enter your friends' email addresses for more chances to win.

My dad was generous enough to let me have the keyboard and mouse in exchange for a Kit Kat Chunky... who am I to stand in the way of a bargain?? He got his Kit Kat and I got the kb and mouse. Job's a good'un! :D

Tomorrow I can vote in our local council elections. It'll have to be after work as the polls don't open till 8am (they close at 9pm). This'll be the 2nd time I've ever voted... I'm not going to say who I'll be voting for, but if anyone knows me they should already know where my vote lies.
