MP3s
You know what really gets my goat? Badly named MP3s... but what's worse than that are badly tagged ones too. Especially those without any tags whatsoever. At least with some tags it can help you work out what song it should really be called.
I am very picky about the naming and tagging convention I use for my MP3 collection.
1. All MP3s should be named Artist - Title.mp3
2. The exception to that rule is when the song is part of an album then the track number comes before Artist.
3. Any remixes should be denoted within [square brackets]
4. Titles containing brackets will use parentheses ().
5. All words should start with a Capital Letter, except "feat." and "vs".
6. The MP3 should contain ONLY ID3v1 tags, v2 and Lyrics3 tags are not wanted at all.
It can be very hard to sort out a lot of MP3s if you haven't done it in a while, which is why I have been looking for some good tagging tools.
So far the best one I have used is called Tag&Rename. Unfortunately it isn't free - but it's probably worth a look. The other bad point I have found is that it doesn't support "wiping" of tags, i.e. complete removal of the ones you don't want and in my case that's ID3v2 and Lyrics3.
I have found a freeware program that should do the wiping of tags for me, but I haven't yet tested it - so I won't be posting any link here until I do.
